2018-Donovan Ditches Club 20

Donovan Ditches Club 20

Today Club 20, the West Slope’s chief non-partisan advocacy organization hosted it’s annual candidate forum. Included in these forums was state Senate District 5 where Olen Lund (R-Paonia) is challenging incumbent Democrat Kerry Donovan (D-Vail).  Donovan ditched the Senate District 5 forum; snubbing the hundreds of voters attending the biggest candidate event in western Colorado.

“Seems to me that Donovan has taken a page from the Polis playbook,” Lund observed. “Boulder Democrat Jared Polis ignored pleas from West slope Democrats to attend the Club 20 forum, even their pleas fell flat on Polis’s tone-deaf ears. I would’ve thought Donovan had better sense.”

Last month Polis announced that he would not attend the Club 20 forum for Colorado’s candidates for governor, becoming the first governor candidate ever to ditch the premier western Colorado event.

Donovan has deep ties to Polis’ political machine having gone so far as to use Polis' operatives to manage and staff her first campaign for state Senate.

“It’s an absolute shame that Donovan continues to take advice from Boulder Democrats while running to represent parts of the West Slope,” said Lund. “Clearly she has lost touch with what matters foremost in rural Colorado - and that’s respect. By ditching the annual Club 20 forum she disrespected all of western Colorado."

Traditionally the Club 20 forums are well attended by rural policy leaders and voters interested in meeting candidates for office. This year was no different.

Lund continues, “I will be a voice for rural Coloradans. I will put west-central Colorado first as the next state Senator from Senate District 5. I will not be lead around by the Denver Boulder crowd. I will respect the values and the people of the West slope.”

Senate District 5 includes Chaffee, Delta, Eagle, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Lake, and Pitkin Counties.
